Who is Benedetta Facini?

Benedetta Facini is an Italian physics student and Titans Space Astronaut Candidate (2029), NASA Citizen Scientist, ESA Science Communicator, Analog Astronaut, and Science Communicator. She trained at NASA Adult Advanced Space Academy and was selected for the Advanced Space Academy under the Scientist-Astronaut Candidate Program.

What is an Analog Astronaut?

An analog astronaut participates in simulated space missions on Earth to prepare for real space travel. Benedetta took part in the Luna I analog astronaut mission, which simulates lunar exploration conditions.

What is the NASA Citizen Scientist Program?

Since 2024, Benedetta has worked as a NASA citizen scientist, contributing to asteroid detection and other space science projects. This program allows civilians to contribute to real NASA research.

What is the ESA Science Communicator role?

In 2023, Benedetta represented the European Space Agency as a science communicator during the JUICE mission launch, helping to communicate complex space science to the public.
